Great News

Hey guys,

So I got some great news, I am finally going to London for a small holiday. I have never been to London so this should be awesome. I have been wanting to go for a long time and thanks to my friend, I am finally going, WHOHOOO.

I tried to plan the whole thing out so we can manage to do everything, which is basically to see London and do a whole lot of shopping.:D MAC here I come. I need to make a list of the things I should buy so that I don’t end up buying the whole store wherever I go. I have been trying to be very careful with my money so I didn’t purchase much make-up this past 2 months. However I have still a couple of products to review for you guys so keep posted.

I would be more than happy to know what are the things I should get while I’m in London from you guys. I want to buy products that aren’t very much available in Malta, so we’ll see how it goes.

Well that is all for now guys, keep posted for more as I have some exciting posts coming up. The opening of the new NYX shop in Malta and some interesting Make-up looks. Thank you all for following,

XOXO

Emerald Inceptions – Handmade Jewellery by Marcon

Things are certainly progressing both in fashion and in Jewelry design here in Malta. I am seeing a lot of entrepreneurial women out there that are starting to make a new of their own, one of them is Marcon Caruana. Me and Marcon have been knowing each other for a long time but little did I know she had such a talent for jewellery making.

I met this lovely lady last week, as she was exhibiting her work at the Gorygoth Malta shop. By spending a few hours with her, i could see how much passion she has for designing, and how much she loves doing it. They are a part of which is why she gives each item a story, that will someday be part of someone else.

I had to opportunity to ask her further about Emerald Inceptions, check them out:

1.How did Emerald Inceptions start?

Working on crafts has been my passion from when I was a tiny tot. I started with cards for different occasions, and even home accessories. My creativity comes from my parents. My mother was a seamstress, and my father was a carpenter.

Like most girls, I also like fashion, clothing, and shoes. Sometimes, because I did not find what I had in mind or wanted, I would look for things that I have at home (a broken necklace or pieces of watches) and then create a necklace or bracelet from them. The initiative to start my small business started when my fiancé and my family saw some of the things that I had done. So they encouraged me to try, and that’s what I did!

2.What was the main reason you started designing jewellery?

I have always had a passion for jewellery, especially earrings! My own collection of earrings from around the world is over 350 pairs, it was an obvious choice. Now I mainly focus on large statement couture necklaces.

3.Have you ever had any training to develop you skill?

If I see something I like, I need to understand how it’s done, first and foremost in my head, then once I understand the theory, I can work with tools and different materials, think outside the box and make what I see. I watch videos on the internet and have bought a lot of books that have helped me with what I do. What I know I learnt on my own, if there was a chance for me to take a course locally I would.

4.From where do you get your inspiration?

My main inspiration is derived from a beautiful time that has gone by – the Victoria Era. I mix the style of that age, with similar modern styles, namely Steampunk and Goth.I also get a lot of Inspiration from nature, especially the sea, classic literature, British Shabby Chic gusto and French Vintage glam.

5.Do you sketch your design before you start working on a piece or you are driven by the instant?

Most of the time I see the design in my head, rather than sketch it, I grab as many wire or beads as I can and lay it out. This allows me to visualize it first.

6.What is your favorite piece of jewellery that you ever created?

Really depends on my mood. My favorite piece is called ‘Cronos Concubinus’ (yes most of my creations have names to explain the story). This two focal necklace, has the most antique clock part pieces I ever laid my hands on, plus a few more.

I created this haute couture necklace, using very rare trinkets, original antiques, such as the tip of a fountain pen from the 1900’s, two steam watch machines pre-WW1, brass and antiqued bronze charms. The chain work is all handmade, comprising of oval loops and the other strand is tiny propeller style links. The beads used for the center strand of the necklace are mostly light grey jade glass and the center bead is black diamond colour with AB colour Czech polished and multifaceted, super pretty when they catch the light.

The story behind it is that the God of Time (Cronos in Latin) had a lover (Concubinus in Latin) – that is why two focal – and the couple, even though two individuals, create a beautiful harmony together which is this couture one of a kind necklace.

7.It is common that most designers develop a certain bond with their designs; do you find it hard to sell a piece of jewellery that you have worked so hard on?

Yes!!! I cried and was shaking when I sold my previous favourite items. It is so emotional for me to find a buyer for my pieces, because we instantly connect. Knowing that there is another person out there that understands and loves your creation is a beautiful experience for which I am very thankful for and motivates me.

8.What is the future for Emerald Inceptions?

Keeping a constant progress to me is very important. Staying in touch with my current clients and understanding the potential for future ones takes time. I am now more determined to create more awareness about mixed media art jewellery and continue to spread the word about Steampunk locally.

However in the next few months a massive change will happen to EI which I cannot reveal for now 😉 But it will be amazing!

I can’t wait to hear the good news for Emerald Inceptions :). Btw watch this lovely braclet I got and some pictures of the display and work by Marcon:

MAC Retro Matte – Ruby Woo Lipstick

Nothing can explain my love for this particular lipstick. No review can give justice to such a lipstick. Yes I am falling in love with a lipstick, I might sound crazy but you have to give it a shot to test how good it is.

1

Well I bought the Ruby woo because recently I have heard a lot about it, being that it is very similar to the Lipstick Rihanna launched with MAC, called Riri Woo. I couldn’t find a good price for Riri woo but I did find a good price for Ruby woo, so I got it. I tested it out about a month ago, as I went for some drinks with my girls. I drank, I eat, and I drank some more an this lipstick stayed put all night. I was so impressed, I never had a lipstick which I didn’t have to reapply in a few hours. It stayed put for over 5 hrs If I recall so that is definitely a 5 star when it comes to longevity. It also doesn’t stain the teeth as it happens with most red lipsticks, and I even noticed it doesn’t stain glasses, when I drink.

2

The colour is a gorgeous red matte lipstick, it doesn’t have an orange tint like most red lipsticks, it is just perfectly matte red. It reminds me of how it was back in the 50’s, I felt like I was channeling my inner Marilyn Monroe. 🙂 Of course the pigmentation is just divine but unfortunately it can be a little bit drying on the lips, so for winter you definitely need to wear a lip balm underneath.

IMG_20130714_163158

Apart from the colour, I love M.A.C lipstick packaging, being in one of my favorite colour, Black. I also can’t get enough of the lovely smell all M.A.C lipsticks have. If you love red lipsticks, this is definitely a lipstick you have to have.

Well that all for now, I think I shared enough love for this lipstick :P. What do you think about this gorgeous lipstick ? Have you ever tried it?

Indian Inspired – Make-up Look

Hey guys,

First of all I want to wish all the Maltese a happy feast while for the rest of the world I do hope you are enjoying your day to the full :). Recently I have been very influenced by the Indian culture. I am in love with the use of colours when it comes to fashion, make up and even religion. Colour plays an important aspect to their values and everyday life. Something I noticed is, that they go full out with make-up and colour on bridal make-up. In western societies we usually go for more natural colours.

1

It would be interesting, I really get to do make up in India, because I wouldn’t have any restraints. Both in Malta and other western countries I have had clients that are sometimes scared to apply different colours because they think it will look bad, but it doesn’t. It all comes to application and blending. However let’s get to my look, I have noticed the use of purple, blue, and yellow in Indian Make-up so I thought these should be my main colours.

4

For this look I used:

  1. The Two Faced, shadow insurance primer
  2. Make up store – white shimmer colour
  3. E.l.f palette for the yellow, blue, purple colour
  4. Maybellline lasting drama gel eyeliner
  5. L’Oreal extra volume colagen Mascara
  6. For the lips I used OMG  lipstick by MUA
  7. Cheek, elf baked bronzer, Mac sheerton blusher breezy

2 3Well guys I do hope you like this look. I do hope I made justice to the beautiful Indian make-up. If you like this look, I would appreciate a like or comment down below, thank you for following

Mini Accessories Haul

Hi guys,

So about a month or two ago, I really needed some retail therapy so I bought a couple of items from various websites online. I have been craving for a couple of handbags and I have been loving these designer smile bags. They can vary in pricing at it depends if they are real leather or not and even which colour you choose. I thought of treating myself for the real deal. I was initially going to it all in black but then the smile wouldn’t be visible, so I opted for the black and white one.

3

I am absolutely in love with this handbag, might buy another one in a different colour as it is super cute. It is quite a heavy bag and can by tiring if you wear it on your wrist for a long time. However comes with a nice long strap which can give you a different option of how to hold this handbag. I also love that is has these metal studs at the bottom of the bag which can keep it from getting dirty, if you leave it on the floor.

I also got this lovely summer handbag for a cheap price on e-bay, I use it currently for work because it quite spacious and very light to carry. It’s perfect for summer, as I like to carry light objects.

5 6

When it comes to jewelry, I have been seeing women wearing necklaces with their name tag which were very popular in the 90’s. The 90’s has definitely come back in 20th century. I managed to find the sterling silver necklace with my name on it and I bought it from ebay. I really like it, and many commented on how cute it looks.

4

Well that is all for now guys, keep posted as I have some interesting new make-up look coming up and more reviews for you guys, so keep posted :D.

Event – Caps and Stones – Yana’s Jewellery and LD Collaboration

Hey guys,

So last week, I had the opportunity to visit this lovely event by two talented designers. Called caps and stone at Yana’s Jewellery store.

DSC01962

I was introduced to Yana thanks to my lovely blogger friend Martina from All things Fabulous. It was a lovely event, and it is nice seeing Maltese designers come up with great products and great ways to make a name for themselves. Being a designer myself, I know how hard it can be to actually succeed as designer here in Malta, so it’s always nice to see this happen.

2

I have the opportunity to talk to these lovely designers for a small amount of time, and it was interesting that they didn’t initially collaborate on the pieces they displayed. They actually created the pieces separately buy they synced completely together.

If you want to know more about the designers, do check Martina’s interview which you can check here.

LD Facebook page :https://www.facebook.com/LuisaDiaconoDesign

I will definitely visit the store again and buy me a lovely necklace as they are simple gorgeous. Even the print on the caps and t-shirts are beautiful and lively, perfect for this Summer. Simply a well done for such an artistic event.

Blue Moon – Make-up look

Hey guys,

I am always trying my best to come up with great make up look for you guys. If you want me to do a particular look and maybe give you step by step instructions to how you should do it, just comment down below :). I am always looking for something new to try, I love to challenge myself in make-up.

Blue1

Blue moon is basically a blue based make-up look with a twist. I love mixing colours in order to create something out of the ordinary but that it still looks beautiful on the eyes. I have to admit it is getting harder to name my looks, but thanks to my awesome friends they help me come up with these creative names :).

A blue moon is usually used to describe a second full moon in a single solar calendar month, which happens every two to three years (seven times in the Metonic cycle of 19 years)

Blue4

  1. I always start with a white of beige base colour but this time I used the e.l.f eye transformers the yellow tone colour.
  2. On the inner corner of my eye I applied a purple/blueish colour, before applying the mustard colour.
  3. Further on I blended the purple with a turquoise colour and then I used a dark brown colour on the crease with some navy blue.
  4. I also used a tint of black on the crease and of course the mustard yellow colour on the inner corner of the eyes.
  5. Finally I applied my favorite winged liner and some mascara. For the lips I used the Mua lip boom (very similar to viva glam nicky) and for the cheeks elf baked bronzer and mac sheertone blusher.

Well I hope you like this look guys, if you do I would appreciate a like or comment down below. Thank you for following and keep posted for more

Eyebrow Tutorial

Hello beautiful people,

Last week I was watching a lovely eyebrow pictorial from the lovely Nicole from Nicole’s Beauty blog which you can visit here. She did this lovely eyebrow pictorial and transformed her eyebrows to perfection. I have to admit, I do not give a lot of attention to my brows :O shame on me hehe. Being that now eyebrows are given a major importance in make up looks, I shall show you my own method of creating the “perfect” brows.

Eyebrow

  1.  In the first picture you are seeing my natural brows with some Vaseline to help them stay put. I start by applying a dark brown almost black, kohl eyeliner.
  2. Then I use a white eye pencil and outline my eyebrows, to give them a defying shape.
  3. I blend the white pencil and apply come concealer that matches my skin colour.
  4. Finally I bend the concealer and use some powder to help the liner stay put and not smudge.

I do hope you like the eyebrow tutorial, unfortunately the pictures aren’t great but that will do for now. Hopefully in the future I get to purchase a good camera.  Do check Nicole pictorial as it is by far better than mine.

Thank you for following and keep posted as tomorrow I have a new look coming up for you guys. I do hope you like it 🙂

L’Oreal Extra Volume Collagen in Black

Hey guys,

It been a while since I reviewed a mascara, because I tried to use the ones I already have so they don’t dry out. This is the latest mascara I bought and I am definitely looking to update my mascara collection. I have always been in love with L’Oreal mascaras since I was a teenager. They always made my lashes look long and with a lot of volume. I have quite average long lashes but with the L’Oreal mascaras, some people even thought I had fake lashes on, because they were looking so big.

20130731_210755

So I went to my local pharmacy and bought a L’Oreal Mascara, this time it was the Extra Volume Collagen. When I saw the title “Extra Volume” and the thick brush it has, I was immediately bought. It cost me about 16 euros, a bit expensive for a drugstore brand but I didn’t mind as I knew for sure I would get immediate results. I loved it’s black sleek packaging, reminds me of some of the high end mascara’s.

20130731_210822

Overall I like this Mascara, I am not in love with it but I do like it. To be honest I was expecting more Volume than the other Mascaras I have tried from L’Oreal. It does give some volume and I love that separates the lashes. This mascara is very dense and can be gloppy when you start a new tube of it. The brush is very fluffy so a lot of product is dispensed on the brush when you pull it out of the tube. In order to avoid too much product, scrape the side of the wand on the inside when you are pulling the wand out and it gives you a clean side of the brush to work with.

20130731_211009

This mascara takes a practiced hand and isn’t ideal for someone new to applying mascara. It wears well, does not flake off and I like that it can be easily removed with cleanser and water, and a bit of eye makeup remover afterwards.

Overall it is a good mascara and I do recommend it to you guys, but don’t expect extra-volume. Well that is for now guys, Keep posted fore more reviews and make-up looks

xoxo
