Nike Plus Size Women’s Collection

Hello Dear Readers,

Since I usually write about Beauty most of the time, today I wan’t to talk about something different, which is Fashion. Nike did a bold move recently, and have finally launched a whole new clothing like for Plus-size women. My inner-self was singing “Halleluia” and thanking any spiritual being, for finally seeing this change.

This is why Nike is delivering the most robust range of sizes for women in more colors and styles than ever before. From a 1X to 3X, Nike’s expanded Plus Size collection is crafted to ensure the perfect fit at every size.

As some of you might know, I am a Plus Size and might still be till the day I die. But I am healthy and like to keep fit. I go to Zumba Classes every week, and do my best to eat healthy and have a few cheat days to keep myself sane. But I will not starve myself or go on crazy FAD diets to be the skinny person most people like me to be. Yet it is very hard to find workout clothes that fit me or many other women for that matter.

Nike has received a lot of praise buy also backlash from people, saying it is accepting obesity and that people should lose weight. So we encourage people to be healthy and workout but then we don’t offer workout clothes for them to wear. It’s like  gym instructors try to encourage people to workout but then they get ridiculed for doing so (fat person on a treadmill photos). THIS HAS TO STOP PEOPLE.

What you see on the outside doesn’t necessary reflect what’s on the inside. A person can be weighting more and be healthy and a skinny person can weight less but not be healthy at all. I know people which are supper skinny and have been eating junk all the time, and now have problems with cholesterol. Then I also know overweight women which eat the right food, and exercise and cannot lose weight or have extra fat which cannot be removed unless they go under the Knife.

Why being Skinny is accepted and seen as Normal, and being overweight is seen as such a bad thing? We need to
stop making assumptions and stop judging.

I am super Happy that Nike launched this line and I hope other Brands will follow. May we be lucky to have this collection in Malta soon, since I am sure many Women will buy them.

Soy Wax Melts at My Melts in Mosta

Hello my lovely readers,

I would like to apologize for my absence in the last few months, believe me they were not the easiest. I was performing with the lovely Choir of Voices for one last time in October and before that I was full with rehearsals. Apart from that I have been travelling a lot for work and getting sick on and off due to the changes in weather. So having time to blog or even pamper myself with make-up and beauty products was a rare thing. But I won’t complain since I loved doing most of the stuff I mentioned.

Something I want to talk about today, is about these soy wax melts I discovered thanks to this fairly new store in Mosta called my Melts. It a lovely store owned by the sweetest Australian-Maltese Anastasia Abela. I met her a while ago were she has explained the idea behind her store and also has made me quite a fan of her Melts.20160505_185801
Throughout her years, she has had an interest in ways to enhance one’s surrounding with the use of aromas and scents. Anastasia explained that a certain perfume or smell can tend to remind us of a certain time in life, mostly good times. Which is quite true, I do have certain perfumes that remind me of home or even a place I visited. On thing I recall was when I was 16, and I travelled to Germany for my first time and I used to wear this lipbalm which had the strong yet lovely smell. I recently found it in an old box and the moment I opened the lip balm container, it brought all the memories when I was there. 20160505_185820

Trough her melts she wants to create a relaxing environment for everyone. Especially with the hectic lives we have nowadays, its good to have such things that can help our mood and give us a calming feeling. All you need is a burner (also available in her shop), one of her lovely melts and you can sit and enjoy the lovely aroma it provides. I find them ideal to use now in Winter, cause in summer it can tend to be a bit to hot to have in Malta.  Anastasia was really nice to give me one to test out, and it smells delicious.20160505_190515

You shall find a huge variety of different scents and perfumes, and she has the cutest packing ideal to give as gifts. I really can’t wait to have some time and go back to her store and get me more melts, and maybe even purchase her cute burner with the same heart shaped size of her Melts. The melts are really affordable and they can last up to 3 days if you let it burn out.

Do it yourself: Manicure

Well today post is a little bit different than usual, however it still has a lot to do with beauty. Recently my nails are a bit of a mess, and I honestly feel ashamed to have them looking so bad. My nails have never been thick, mostly because of my years of nail biting. It’s been 2 years since I stopped biting them and they have improved a lot, yet unfortunately they are still very thin and break very easily. Before the manicure my nails where all in different lengths, and they didn’t look one bit pretty. So I decided to give myself a manicure, and show you how to do it yourself. It is very easy just follow my steps.

1 First step is to remove any bits of nail polish you might have left with a Nail polish remover. The one I used is from Kiko.

2 Second step is to dab your fingers into warm water for about 10 minutes. This will make your nails will be softer, which is ideal for when you need to file them.

3 Next step is to file your nails, make sure to file them in one direction. The was my biggest mistake when I was younger I used to file them in both directions, which is why my nails are a mess. Also try to give them the same length.

4 Use a cuticle oil and apply and massage it one each nail, so that the nails will absorb it well. I used the Mavala Cuticle oil, it is seriously one of the best. Also if you have a cuticle remover ( not sure what it is actually called), push the cuticle inwards. Unfortunately I couldn’t find one so I used my nails instead.

5 Step five I applied some hand lotion, and let the hand absorb it well. I have quite a selection of hand creme but I decided to use the Dr.Organic hand and nail cream, because it is very moisturizing and ideal for nails.

6 Before applying any sort of nail polish, I made sure to remove and moisturizer that there might have been on the nails. As it might not help with the application.

7 Apply any base coat or hardener depends on the state of your nails. Being that I need a nail hardener I applied the Sally Hanson Miracle nail thickener. Not sure if I like the hardener over my usual OPI Nail envy but I will give it a shot. If you don’t need a hardener just apply a base coat, then any coloured nail polish you wish and finally a top coat.  This will make your nail polish last longer.

Kim Kardashian – Vogue Brasil – Inspired Make-Up Look

Hello dear readers,

Sorry for the slight delay in my posts, however I had some technical issues in my pc. Yet thanks to a little help from my friend, my pc is fully functioning again :). Last week as I was browsing for inspiration, I saw Kim Kardashian cover for Vogue Brasil and I simply loved the make-up. Usually Kim wears heavy make-up, smokey eyes and a lot of contouring. But in this shoot she is wearing a much lighter make-up look. It looks very simple however the techniques used aren’t as simple as it might look.

Instructions:

  • The foundation base has to be very light, do not however go for a lighter shade than your skin tone. Use a lighter shade for your T zone, which is from the middle of your forehead, your nose and under your eyes.
  • As for the eye-shadow I applied a matte while shadow on the brow bone and into the inner corner of the eyes. Then I chose a shimmery white shadow and applied it all over the lid, keep the shadow handy as you might need to apply more in the end.
  • The tricky part is the apply a light brown show onto the crease and try for it not to touch the white shimmer shadow. Blend it lightly and make top more white shadow if needs be.
  • Make sure apply a tick winged eyeliner and some mascara, ideally add some fake lashes. Also fill up those eyebrows with a matching eye shadow. Try not to use pencils.
  • Finally I used a bronzer and highlighted the cheek bone, around the edge of my face, and contoured my nose. I didn’t use any blusher as there is no trace of that in the shoot, but I did apply some skin toned powder for the make-up to set.
  • For the lips I used a nice pink toned natural lipliner and lipstick.

Lifestyle change: Healthy life

Hello guys,

So this post is going to be a bit different from my usual posts, as I don’t usually post anything which is related to healthy living or body image. When it comes to my body image I tend to be very reserved and shy out from conversations. This is something which surprises a lot of people, as I always look very confident and at ease. The truth I’ve never been very confident in my body and always felt weird next to everyone else because of my height and built. I am about 5,8 and that is pretty tall for a Maltese, here in Malta the average height for women is about 5,5, which makes me above the average. Apart from feeling huge around women, I felt huge around guys, so I used to wear little to no heels so I don’t look abnormal. Nowadays I am very happy in my height and love to wear heels and simply don’t care if anyone is shorter than me, no offence :P.

However something which has taken over my life has always been my weight. As a typical Maltese, we eat a lot, I remember my mum forcing me to eat everything that was on the plate, and if I didn’t I wouldn’t be rewarded because I was not a good girl, and apparently every child in Africa was dying of hunger because of me.

As a child, I was a pretty skinny, yet taller than more girls but still skinny.  Everything changed until the age of 16, that was when my weight was starting to show, I was never huge but I was overweight. Yet I could hide all the fat pretty well, I still do. Thanks to my sisters, I learned to always look the best, it was always a way to hide what was really going on.

You must be thinking why am I telling you all this? Well recently I’ve been complemented on my appearance and that it shows I have improved drastically from when I started the blog. I did loose weight and I’ve become more active in my life. I also want to show you my human side for once that in the end we all have our struggles, it how we face them that makes us the person we are now.

Recently we are blessed (and cursed) with the information we are being given for free though internet, tv and social media. We are finally getting the right information about being healthy and about taking care of our bodies. I learned throught my life how my family has no idea how to live a healthy lifestyle and unfortunately for my parents it is too late for them to understand now. But I am young and I can learn and make better choices for my future.

I don’t want to give the wrong impression that I lost weight to look better or whatsoever. I believe everyone should love themselves in whatever shape or size they are. I know skinny women wishing they were fuller and fuller women wishing they were skinnier. Yet I believe everyone should be healthy and take care of their body. There are many out there, who are not healthy and are still skinny, it doesn’t show but it get’s them sick anyways. Then there are others like me who aren’t healthy and it shows directly by getting fat. I’ve seen first hand how obesity can cost your life and that is something which no junk food or chocolate is worth more than that.

My diet:

All my life I tried all the diets you can think of, bought product as well in the hope that they make miracles, however nothing can. The toughest thing is changing your frame of mind. Whatever you’ve been thought all your life, trow it away.

1 . Change your frame of Mind

Losing weight is not about eating little, or cut off completely the things you love, but it’s all about having a balanced diet and get rid of things which are simply not good for you. The first thing which scared me is that I would be hungry and that I wouldn’t find food I like to eat. It’s not true, there is so much healthy food out there which will leave you satisfied and not feeling hungry at all.

2. Get rid of all the Sugary stuff

The only thing I cut of completely is sugary stuff, chocolate, cookies, cupcakes or whatsoever. Sugar is as bad as any drugs, it gets you addicted and it makes you want more and more until you cannot stop. So the best thing is to just say bye to it and let it go, believe me if you truly believe you are in control and that you really don’t need it in your life, you will live without it.  I have been addicted to chocolate most of my life, and I decided I am better of without it.

3. Eat whatever you want in moderation

Eat whatever you want, you might think I’m crazy but yes. I believe in limiting yourself to what you eat you will end up wanting it and more. You know what’s good for you and you know what’s bad, try to eat healthy foods as much as possible and then if you crave a slice of pizza go ahead just make sure it doesn’t get consistent. It is all about moderation, little portions and frequent meals.

Many do the wrong thing to starve themselves or eat the same thing everyday. There will be a breaking point where you just want to eat all the junk you can possibly think of. Something I also suggest don’t eat at any franchise shop,

1 you have no idea what you are actually eating and 2 all they care if making money from you and not your actual health. Choose take aways that sells good healthy stuff that is cooked right then and there. Ideally cook yourself, nothing tastes better than a home cooked meal and the good think about it, is that you know what you are actually putting in your body.

3 Exercise

I always thought exercise is for people which were born into sports and were cabable of doing it. Well it’s not obviously, it is for everyone at every size. The truth is I used to hate any sort of fitness, I love to play and dance however but other than that I wasn’t interested. Now I love going to the gym and running, it is my stress relieve and mood booster . I feel stronger and healthier and even happier.

4 Have a good support system

Ideally you take this journey on your own because I feel that is the only way you can truly succeed. Sometimes when we depend on others we tend to give up when that support is gone. Yet sometimes it is helpful to have someone that support you especially when you feel like giving up. At the moment my support system is my boyfriend, he helps me out especially when we eat out and tries not to tempt me with bad food, and that is very important for me.

Rabbit Club Malta-Calender Photoshoot

Hello guys,

Last week I was begged to help as a Make-Up artists for the Rabbit Calendar photo-shoot. Of course I didn’t do any make-up on the Rabbits themselves 😛 but I did however do Make-Up on two beautiful women named Svetlana and Miriam. Being that today is mothers day I felt it appropriate to post the photos today being that they are mother and daughter. I was very pleased to do their make-up not only because I love what I do but because they appreciated my work and gave me a lot of positive remarks.

I wish to wish all the Mothers out there a Happy Mothers day, may your daily sacrificed be appreciated and celeberated :D.

Now as for the photo-shoot, the Rabbit Club do an annual Calender shoot were they exhibit their beautiful rabbits which natural gorgeous models. I was asked by the Rabbit club committee to do a very natural make-up look, however being that it’s spring and almost summer I wanted to give that vibe by adding a bit of colour onto the lips. The final photos with the rabbits will be posted at the end of this year however in the meantime I have some beauty shots for the Make-Up I did.

Having beautiful facial feuturs and big eyes to work on I decided to make it a bit heavier than most common natural make-up because on camera it would barely show she has make-up on. I still used natural bronze colours on the eyes, using gold and brown shadows and a thin eyeliner. Then I applied a nice pink shade on the lips. This is not a natural look for an evening out but it is when it is for a photoshoot. I have tested make-up on camera and have learned a lot along the way.

Miriam

Before I explain the look, Miriam is on her 50’s and she is simply stunning for her age. I truly wish I look as good as she does at her age.  Make up on a more mature women should be as lighter as possible, using lighter foundation and lighter colours. When you apply heavy a darker shade of foundation or eye-shadows on a mature women, it might make her look older than she is, and we definitely don’t want that. I used similar colours as Svetlana but made sure to use less product. Finally being that Miriam has beautiful pouty lips I applied a nice light pink shade and Voilaa.
