NYX – Box of Eyeshadows 112 colours

Being a makeupholic, I am always interested in trying out new pigments and new products. If anyone would ask me what make-up product I like the most, it would probably be eye-shadows. I probably have more than 10 eye-shadow palettes and believe me they are not enough.  Why I like eye-shadows so much? It is probably because I am an artist, I used to paint using acrylics and without the different colours you wouldn’t create Art basically. The same goes to make-up, different eye-shadows can truly create some beautiful Art.

When NYX opened in Malta I truly wanted to test out some of their eye-shadows, and I was impressed by the few I got to try out that I went ahead and bought this extensive palette. Compared to the pricing, they have some good quality pigmentation. The packaging is very sleek in black; it also comes with an applicator and mirror which I rarely use. It has two compartments; the upper one has the natural colours from light to dark natural colours like white, black and brown. Then you can slide the bottom compartment and you will find a range of vibrant colours from Pink, yellow, blue and orange.

It is very useful to travel with, I basically take it to most photo-shoots, and it has become truly indispensable. This beauty retails, for about €34, which is a fairly good price for such a good quality palette.

Pros:

  • Nice sleek and sturdy packaging – great for travelling
  • Great pigmentation
  • Easy to use and blend
  • Decent pricing

Cons:

  • The only thing I’m not too fond of is that I do get some fallout. Being that its powder it’s pretty normal, but I do believe it should have less.
  • One thing that annoys me is that the highlights, medium tones and dark tones are scattered in the palette, I would have preferred if they were in order like the Elf Palettes for example.

Will I ever buy this product again? I probably will, it might not be the best eye-shadow palette but i find it very handy and the eye-shadows are pretty pigmented.

Do I recommend it? Definitely, if you like to have a variety of eye-shadow and don’t want to spend a lot of money, this is a good medium.

Pupa Milano – Navy Chic Spring Collection – Matic Sylo Eyeshadow in 002

Hello dear readers,

Not sure if you follow the amazing brand Pupa Milano, but as Spring came about, they launched their Spring Collection called Navy Chic. The collection includes beautiful bright and bold colours from eyeshadows lipstick and nail polishes. I simply cannot get over the yellow nail polish or that beautiful red lipstick from this collection.  Even-though spring is almost over I am sure this collection will look great for this Summer aswell. Unfortunately I might be a little bit late with this review, but I always love to test a product as much as I can before giving a final review, so please bare with me.

Pupa Milano in Malta gave me the Matic Sylo eyeshadow stick in Taupe which is a lovely colour to use a medium tone. This Matic Stylo is available in 4 different colours the oo1 Golden rose, 002 Taupe, 003 Wisteria, 004 Silver. The eye shadow is very creamy and is applied like a dream. It feels very wet and refreshing on the eyes, the feeling is very similar to that once you get out of the shower. The awesome thing about this shadow is it doesn’t smudge nor crease. What is pretty impressive about all of the Pupa products is how long they last and this is not an exception.

Spring Make Up Trends 2014

Don’t you love Spring ? I do and a lot :D. Spring and Summer have to be my favorite seasons. Days are longer, the weather in beautiful and we can start wearing some  bright and bold colours <3

Here are some Trends which you can start wearing this Spring:

1 Natural

I have always believed that Make-up is there to either enhance our beautiful natural features or else to express ourselves trough it. On the run way and even photoshoots, very natural make-up is used. The skin has taken center stage, it all about having a glowing natural skin, nude eyes with a minimum of liner and mascara. A bit of blusher to give the a bit of life and a soft pink lipstick. I think this look is perfect for everyday and even for a lazy Sunday. My favorite products to create such a natural look : Vichy dermablend foundation, MAC Creme cup lipstick, MAC blusher Dollymix, Benefit They’re real mascara.

2 Orange Lips

When I was a little kid, I always loved wearing bright colours but I would never wear that any colours outdoors. Now I love wearing the occasional red and of course a lovely coraly orange colour.  I do suggest you find the right shade of orange that goes on with you skin colour, not every orange lipstick will look good on you.  For those with a fair skin complextion, I guesst a pinky orange with very little yellow in it, this way the shade complements the skin without crating a stark contrast and without highlighting the fairness of the skin, that would make you look to pale. As for those with a medium toned skin complextion like me, they can use the most classical, bright and bold colour. Almost all shades look good on someone with a medium tone except for those with blue eyes,  they should opt for something darker. As or thise with a warm and dark skin complexion, the ideal choice is a type of orange reminiscent of peach that brighten up the face and soften the greenish effect typical of Olive skin tones. Also beware of bright hues at it can be quite a make-up disaster. My Favorite Orange Lipstick : NYX Matte Lipstick – Indie Flick

The Harry Potter star looked flawless at the New York premiere on March 26

3. Blue Eyeshadow

I have always loved bold colours and blue eye-shadows have truly taken center stage in recent fashion shows and even on the catwalk. Eventhough I love to experiment with colours and eye-shadows, do be careful how you apply such colours, make sure you blend well and make sure such a colour look on your skin tone. I loved using such colours on look I did a while ago. My Favorite Blue eyeshadow: Pupa Milano Vamp! Compact eyeshadow 300

4 Cat eyes

Cat eyes are such an easy way to look sexy without the need to put too much make up on. Just apply a nice winged eyeliner, and some mascara and your ready to go. If you have beautiful eyes there is really no better way to flaunt them.  There are various ways to create this winged liner,  if you have small eyes don’t do a very thick liner, leave it thin and simple. If you have big eyes, any  both winged liner will look good on you both thin or thick. My Favorite eyeliner has to be the NYX The Curve eyeliner.

5 Think Gold

In spring we slowly start getting some colour and there is no colour that looks better on a bronzed skin than some gold. Gold for me screams beach-tan-spring-summer <3. My favourite gold eyeshadows are from the Naked 3 Palette by Urban Decay

6 A pop of Green

I have to admit I rarely wear green, I don’t have any green clothing apart from a shirt here and there, and it’s not one of my favorite colors. Yet I have to admit that it’s a great colour for anyone with very light eyes and complexion, I think on me looks a bit silly on its own but with blended with a mixed array of colours it can look pretty good.  My favorite Green shadows have to be from the NYX eyeshadow set palette.

What is your favorite Spring trend? Would love your opinion down below 🙂

Happy Spring

Pupa Milano – Vamp! Wet and Dry Eyeshadow – 305

In the recent months I have been testing and simply loving all of the Pupa products. Now I am finally taking the time to give you a detailed review about their latest new eye-shadow beauties. Recently Pupa launched a series of 24 gorgeous shades of Vamp! Wet and dry eyeshadows, and I was lucky to get my hands on one of them. I chose this gorgeous navy blue, that has this pearl-like kind of metallic texture.

 VW1

This eyeshadow can be used both wet and dry, however I have only used it when dry up till now.  I have used this particular colour in a recent make-up look called Winter blues, so do check it out. I am simply in love with this colour, the texture and pigmentation is simply impeccable. Many have asked me about this shadow whenever I wear it. It also has little fall out and it has such a lovely smooth and “creamy” texture, which is a pleasure to work with and blend.

VW2

I also can’t express how cute is their packaging, which is very sleek and neat just how I like it .It also has a nice small applicator which can be handy for some, even though I still prefer to use my own eye-shadow brushes. This beauty retails for €11.70 which is a good reasonable price, for it great quality and it also has a good amount of product that will take a while for it to end.

VW3

Pros:

  • Beautiful packaging, sleek and neat
  • Great quality and pigmentation
  • Minor fall outs
  • lasts all day
  • Worth every penny

WW4

Cons:

  • NONE- I actually have nothing negative to say about this product is simply delivers.

Will I ever buy this product again? Definitely, I would buy it in an instant if I ever run out, the pigmentation is simply divine.

Do I recommend it? Of course, I urge your to visit their local Pupa stand which are available in various Pharmacies, Perfumeries and Beauty Salons, they are totally worth it.

NYX – Girls Nail Polish – Forever 1989

Before I start with my review, I want to let you know, that I will be hosting an International Giveaway, only if I get 100 likes on Facebook. So please like my Facebook page on this Link :https://www.facebook.com/makeupbysj 🙂

Being that in Malta it’s currently freezing cold and raining, I thought of brightening your day with this lovely bright nail-polish colour by NYX. I simply love this nail polish not only for it’s gorgeous vibrant orange color but even for it’s own name Forever 1989, which is the year I was born in :D. On my first trial, the application went really smoothly and the color is just gorgeous, have I said that already? hehe probably.  Even if this colour would be more suitable in Summer, I really enjoyed wearing it, as not all oranges look good on my skin tone but this one does.

F1

Pros:

  • The quality of this polish is very consistent.
  • The brush is really good, I didn’t have any problems with the application.
  • I also love the formula because it’s not to thick that it will take ages to dry and not to runny.
  • It also doesn’t take more than a couple of minutes to fully dry
  • This polish retails for only 4 euros, very cheap

F2

Con’s:

  • The only negative thing I can think of, is that you need to apply 2 or 3 coats to have the full colour-effect but other than that there isn’t anything else which I don’t like.

F3

Will I ever buy this product again? Definitely, but might try some other colours from their Girls Nail polish range :).

Do I recommend this product? Hell yeah 😛 especially to those born in 1989 😀 you have to have this.

NYX – Slim Eye Pencils – in Black and Bronze Glitter

Hello beauties,

Today I thought if reviewing some other products I was given from NYX , one of which are these Slim eye pencils in Black and Bronze Glitter. I have to admit I am not much of a glittery person when it comes to eye pencils, I always seem to go for the matte ones, however it’s nice to have something different for a change. I have tried something similar back in the day, and they used to be quite rough on the eyes because of the glitters, but these liners are truly an exception, they applied very smoothly and gave impressive results.  I might actually try something fun with these too someday.

P4

P3

Pros:

  • They have a wide selection of eye pencils and not just glitter ones like I have
  • They are super affordable they retail for about 3 to 4 euros if i’m not mistaken
  • The liners are very smooth and it applies well, without the need of having to apply several layers especially the black one.
  • Once applied it stays put, I never had any problems with fading however I would suggest using a concealer underneath especially for those that have oily lids.

P2

Cons:

  • The Bronze shimmer is slight less pigmented but it applies smoothly as well, it takes a couple of layers to achieve an opaque line.
  • It says you can even apply it on your brow, I highly suggest for you not to do so because of the glitter.  Nobody wants glittery eye-brows unless it’s for a fashion shoot or an artistic  make-up look.

P1

Will I ever the this product again? Being that they since they are super cheap, I’m not expecting them to be the best pencils out there. I probably won’t purchase any more of the glitter pencils, but I would buy their regular Slim Pencils, which are great buys!

Do I recommend this product? If you like having shimmery liners than I would definitely recommend these particular liners, as they are cheap and good quality but if your not into the shimmery one buy the regular slim pencils, they’re great 🙂

Make Up Store – Microshadow in Matte White

Hey guys,

I wish you all a Happy Halloween, in Malta we don’t actually celebrate it like most foreign countries but it is slowly being part of our yearly calender too.  There are a few children which dress up and trick or treat and there are many adults which dress up go to Halloween parties  but that is pretty much it. I think it’s a fun tradition and we should incorporate it in our Mediterranean society. Today unfortunately I don’t have another Halloween look for you guys but I do have a great review for a pretty good product.

W1

On my last visit to the Make-up store, I got quite a couple of products from there and the one I will review today is the Michroshadow in matte White. I already have another Michroshadow in a shimmery white colour, which I love and have been using for a lot of my make up looks. These shadows retail for about €13, which is quite pricey for a single eye-shadow but they are worth every penny.

W2

Pros:

  • Very pigmented, which you can view clearly as I swatched this shadow.
  • The packaging is very sleek, it comes with thick black plastic and a clear lid on top. I love how you can remove the lid in various ways, you can either remove it completely or pulling it upwards and it can be clipped on back easily.
  • It has a good longevity, it stay on the lids for a good amount of time, without a primer it will probably last up to 4hrs but with a good primer it will last up-to 8hrs.
  • Easy to apply and blend
  • It has a generous amount of product, I have been using the other microshadow for more than 9 months and I haven’t seen the end of it yet, and I use it a lot.

W3

Cons:

  •  To be honest I don’t have a particular con for this shadow, just that try to be careful not to break the plastic lid. I broke my other eye-shadow plastic lid and I cannot carry the shadow on it’s own unfortunately.
  • The price of this shadow can be seen as expensive for some but it is worth every penny as it will last you for a long time.

Will I ever buy this product again? Definitely, If I will ever run out of this colour I will repurchase for sure, and will  buy more in various colours.

Do I recommend it? I recommend it to anyone, they are really great and worth every penny

Pupa Milano – Lasting Color Gel

Pupa Milano haven’t been doing nail polishes for a long time, but I think after the success they had with the past limited edition polished they decided to launch more than 50 shades.

Pupa2

The new colour range are called lasting color gel, claiming to be similar to the gels but you don’t have to use a UV-lamp for the nail polish to dry. It apparently has a gel-formula that makes the nail look super shiny and gloss but also give this nice finish that stay one for a long time. I have tried a normal polish by Pupa before from the 50’s theme and I was impressed by how long the polish stayed put on my nails for a whole week. This is by far as good as it claims as it stayed put for 5 whole days and after that I minor fallouts.

Pupa1 Pupa3

I am in love with this pastel colour, and it is a color that you can wear in any season. The color is very pigmented and it doesn’t take a long time to dry. I am also loving this new brush, it is wide and thin, and makes the application easier and faster.

I thought of showing you the available colors:

This product retails for 6euros which can be seen as pricey but being so long lasting I think it worth the money. Pupa Milano products are found in most outlets and pharmacy’s around Malta, so head on and buy one.

Well that is all for now guys, keep posted for more and feel free to like or comment down below 🙂

It’s all about the Lips

One of Summer’s make-up trends is wearing very simple and neutral eye-shadow while having lovely bright, bold colored lips. It is however very important to be careful with regards to what colors should you choose. Pink and Red colours look great on all skin tones but there are various types of pinks and reds, so make sure you are picking the right colour.

  • For fair skin: coral reds or dark reds with pink undertones.
  • For medium or olive skin: pink and cranberry shades, and brick reds.
  • For dark skin: reds with burgundy or brown tones.

Matte lipsticks are pretty much in vogue nowadays. I haven’t seen a catwalk model wearing a glossy a lipstick. I love a matte lipstick, it looks gorgeous on the lips without showing too much. I used to be scared wearing red lips when I was younger because I had the idea of it not looking good on me or making me look older. If you chose the right colour, it won’t make you older, and it won’t look bad.

This summer is enabling us to be creative and colorful with make-up, so let’s enjoy this time and do the best we can with it. 🙂

My Mini OPI Haul

Hey guys :),

So I have a tendency to obsess on different objects at different times. I find something which I am lacking of at the moment and but a lot of options. Recently I had an OPI nail laquer obsession, and bought a couple of products from e-bay.

The first thing I bought was the OPI nail envy for me and my sister, my sister nails were needing some serious treatment and she used my nail envy and fell in love with it. My nail envy is almost finished (thanks to my sister :p), so I bought one for her and one for me. So now she doesn’t have to borrow mine anymore.

20130711_224401

I already reviewed this miracle worker before but as you can see I truly love it. At first I was skeptical because I tried many hardeners before and did nothing for my thin nails, and at first I wasn’t seeing any change. But then I saw miracles after a couple of weeks, my nails truly become harder and grew stronger. Unfortunately recently I went trough a stressful time and my nails become thinner and started chipping again. That means they need a dose of nail envy.20130711_224343

The second thing I bought is the cute Mini set of nail lacquers in neon colours. Being that nails aren’t in the best shape at the moment, I thought by buying this set will make me look more forward to get them in shape :). Also neon colors are very much in vogue nowadays, I personally don’t like them on clothes because I find neon can look a bit trashy. However I do like neon colors on my nails and some type of accessories, especially now in Summer. Can’t wait to try them out and review them for you :D.

That is all for now guys, keep posted for more reviews and interesting make-up looks coming up.

xoxo
